I began 2011 with a 14 handicap but after a number of over par rounds not playing better than 18 over I had risen to 15.
I went to see Tom in June - After trying a couple of fixes Tom gently introduced me to a system called stack & tilt which he felt would be really beneficial due to the fundamentals that were already strong in my swing. The key with this was Tom knew I read a lot about golf and would have my own opinions about a "method" so Tom got me hitting the ball better than ever before revealing the secret - good coaching!
I saw Tom again in July and then August (my choice not his - none of this you must come back every week stuff) to further work on my game and the change has been amazing. I no longer measure my success by what my backswing looks like on camera but by the ball flight and scores I achieve on the golf course.
In the simplest terms my handicap is now 11.0 - dropping 3.8 shots in 4 months! I have shot career best rounds 3 times including an all time low 77 and have won 2 comps at my club!
The difference I find in Tom's coaching is that when I go back for another lesson it isn't the usual "lets have a look and see where you are going wrong" approach. Tom remembers what we have worked on, perhaps mentally or through consulting the workbook he put together for me and we work to get better, not fix what is wrong on any given day.
I also understand my swing now which means I able to practise what Tom teaches rather than falling in to old habits.
Tom has re-energised my passion for golf and I recommend him to anyone who will listen. Funnily enough since my handicap started to tumble a lot of guys at my club are asking about where I go for lessons! |
